Color Kinetics LED Lighting

Displaymaker makes every effort to use environmentally-responsible products and services wherever possible. Although we may not be 100% green – we are constantly on the lookout for new, earth-friendly ways to incorporate products into what we do that are good for the environment and put less strain on our natural resources.

As part of our quest toward a better, cleaner, more energy-efficient environment, we are proud to represent the following product lines. We plan to add a lot more to this list in the future, so check back often.

Color Kinetics

These LED lighting solutions are a key component of our events, exhibits, interiors – you name it. LEDs are up to four times more efficient than incandescent and halogen sources today, and rapidly gaining ground on fluorescent sources. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has estimated cumulative savings of $98 billion by 2020 once LED lighting reaches the performance crossover with conventional sources.

Due to their long source life and high reliability, LED-based lighting systems require less frequent recycling than traditional light sources. Many of these products can be disassembled for recycling purposes. In addition to Design for Manufacturing processes during development, many of the lighting systems we use are being designed for easier disassembly. For example, the newer products use screws or gasket designs vs. adhesives. Recyclable materials in the lighting systems include polymer and aluminum housings, fasteners, glass lenses and the electronic circuit boards inside the fixtures. Unlike fluorescent sources, LEDs contain no hazardous mercury which makes recycling difficult. Additionally, the product packaging can be recycled and Color Kinetics is  in the process of implementing environmentally-friendly packaging materials - foregoing high clay content, color printed materials to facilitate recycling.

GigaCrete

Displaymaker is using GigaCrete extensively to create environmentally-friendly trees for the Port of Seattle's holiday décor. GigaCrete creates environmentally responsible building materials and alternatives to concrete that contain no Portland cement. Their products achieve extreme building performance, and they are also sustainable and environmentally sensitive.  GigaCrete's process integrates environmental considerations into product and process engineering procedures, sometimes called Design for the Environment (DfE).

Environmental benefits of GigaCrete materials:
Recycled Aggregate: Two of the Company's core products – GigaCrete Panels and StuccoMax-E – are made with recycled waste materials including bottom ash and fly ash.  And, these materials comprise up to 80% (by volume) of the overall finished product – a level unsurpassed in cementitious construction materials.  The "extraction burden" of our filler materials (also known as the ecological rucksack) is much more environmentally favorable for GigaCrete products.
Thermal efficiency: The high thermal efficiency and insulating value of the GigaCrete PanelSystem provides advantages for heating and cooling.
Nontoxic: All GigaCrete products are manufactured with an entirely nontoxic cement.
Reduced CO2: The manufacture and use of GigaCrete cement products results in 50 less CO2 emissions compared to the manufacture and use of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) building materials.
Low Water Use: GigaCrete products use about two-thirds less water than conventional Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) building materials.
Nonflammable: GigaCrete products will not support flame or fire, thereby reducing the potential for harmful or toxic off-gases associated with structure fires.
